I've Got Sunshine on a Cloudy Day
Well wow. What is there to say?
I really thought everything kind of congealed tonight.
And aside from the musical/guard part of it, i think the BAND, came together in only a way the rain could bring about. I think we really worked as a team...
...and walked home together just as Nick elaborately detailed. (haha)
It was a fantastic game and will go in school's history books for sure.
A side note:
We tried something new tonight.
The "Holla Back Cadence" is just really cool, and I hope you all found it relatively easy to march. I want to tell it's story.
so now...Sam presents... THE BIRTH OF THE HOLLA BACK GIRL CADENCE
I have to mention that I had discussed that beat with Kelly O'Leary after listening to Z100 one too many days in a row. We recognized that a popular beat was found in not only the Stefani song, but also a Kelly Clarkson song.
It's a great beat. Extremely catchy. And it was the idea of Kelly, (not Clarkson) to have such a cadence. But how would we pull it off? We don't have a drum line.
HOWEVER, Caitlin Krow insisted that the percussion actually try to play it!
Cait helped me get the bass drum beat, complete with rim knocks, and Juls listened to it to get ideas for all the other percussion components. Rich creates his own solos on the quads.
So again, emphasizing TEAM SPIRIT, it was really a group effort to learn this hip and happenin' new cadence. I knew it was a success when people started dancing to it off on the side.
And we really lucked out that the heaviest rain held off until after our show.
Thanks to all the parents and siblings who came out tonight and got soaked in the process.
When it was pouring, I told John's mother, "WELCOME TO BAND!"
Yes. It takes a special kind of student, as well as special parents who don't mind becoming a roadies/chauffers for 3 months.
Thank you all so much.

Food Forms
Hey everyone! Just a reminder to get those food forms back to me. I don't need the money by Friday, just a tally of what you're going to want. Please order more than you think you're going to want. You'll be there a good five or more hours, and what you order is what you get. Please fill out those forms and get them back to me by Friday so Mr. Powers can get our order in. If you need another one, just let me know; I have extras. Thanks everyone!

A Tribute to the Band Parents
Again, thank you to all the band parents that were around on Saturday. I can't remember ever having so many parents around ready to leand a hand. Building props and scenery, taking pictures and movies, bringing us meals, making us vests, loading and unloadng equipment, pulling pit carts, and chauffering (chauffeuring?) us around. You guys are awesome. It is greatly, greatly appreciated. It's so comforting and motivating to have such an amazing support system. With your help this is going to be a very promising season. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Sunny Day Slump
Hey guys. The sun's been so hot lately, but I'm so impressed with what you guys have accomplished despite the elements. Awesome job you guys. I mean that. Keep up good attitudes, and stay focused. Think of how good it felt last year coming off the field when you know you performed a show well. Keep that feeling in mind as your motivation to get to that point. To know it, and know it well. I have faith in every one of you. (And if you need help with music or drill don't be afriad to ask someone!)
Also, don't forget for Saturday:
Students arrive at RBC: 9am
Partents arrive at RBC: 10am
Bus Departure: 10:30 am
We're going to run through the show Saturday morning when we get to the band house, so be prepared to work. Also, make sure you have Notre Dame and the Hey Song Memorized. Seriously, we will be playing them.
Make sure you all have your pants (hemmed!), shirt, and drillmasters. Also, drink lots of water on Friday, cuz that will help keep you hydrated Saturday during the game.
I hope everyone's excited for their first performance!

Band vs. The Elements
Everyone knows that it was extremely hot during practice today.
The sun was very strong.
Many of us wear sunglasses. This is good for our eyes, but what about our skin?
Believe me, you can get sunburn in COOLER MONTHS, and I'm talking October and even into November.
Protect yourselves, PLEASE!
The sun is still strong and everyone should take caution.
I'm going to bring in a community bottle of sunscreen and leave it in the band house.
Use it and protect yourselves from harmful rays!

Band Camp 2005
I would, first off, like to say that this has been the absolute best year of band camp that ever existed. who agrees? I'm not sure how in the world powers kept sane (or so we thought) with writing drill for the upteenth time or yelling at eric for missing beat 4. or was it 3? Powers, I would personally like to thank you on a job very very well done. I know the rest of the band appreciate all your hard work as well. Although you yell "to" us, it's for our own sake and we wouldn't have become better musicians without a constant "F FREKIN SHARP!!" Thank you so much!!!
next, Nick and Adrienne; Amanda and Cait. Nick and Adrienne, thank you for putting up with us all, for helping us and correcting us where need be, and most of all being very supportive. you guys have taught us a lot and wouldn't yell when we forgot and made the mistake a second time.
As ffor Amanda and Cait, may God bless you. haha you have been working tirelessly putting together routines for an 8 minute show .. while dealing with several new guardies who want to be a part of only the coolest color guard ever! whenever i look out at you guys on the parking lot i am just amazed. enough said. the four of you rock, never change.
sam and juls, the rest of us would be absolutely lost without you. announcements keep us on top of the game.. sam, this blog was an excellent idea; juls, helping the new kids learn how to march .. wow , just wow. you guys are such an asset to the band & we'd be in a 6-foot hole with a road map of idaho without you. so thank you so very much.
did i miss anybody?? OH MAN you band geeks are my life. i absolutely live for marching season and this year, by far, has already turned out to be the most promising season ever. i love you all so much thank you for everything.
alright, sorry this was long, but it was called for. until next august..

Stand Cheers
Guys, who's going to lead the cheers in the stands? Brian passed it to Bobby, and Bobby to who? I can't wait for the freshmen to experience their first competition. After the work is done, there's LOTS of down time guys, stuff gets interesting. I can't wait for you all to learn the cheers.
